Below is another actual scam email purporting to be from the "Swiss National Lottery"  Note some of the dead giveaways, highlighted below, that it is a scam; heck, they even misspelled "Microsoft":

  • What is the Swiss National Lottery doing with a headquarters in Liverpool, UK?

  • the return email addresses are free Yahoo email accounts,

  • The recipient "won" without buying a ticket (so where does the money come from?)

  • the winner was selected from a "computer ballot system" (there is no such thing)

  • "For security reasons" you're not allowed to talk to anyone about it (especially the police or consumerfraudreporting.org!) - which ought to be odd since lotteries thrive on publicity!

  • Notice all the misspellings, poor punctuation and grammar - not very professional.

  • No consistency of contact information, multiple names, and free email addresses, but they never ask you to visit their headquarters.
