How to Recognize Them and What To Do If You Receive One
There are only two legal lotteries in Britain, the National Lottery and the Monday Lottery, and they do NOT use email to notify winners. Below are scam emails actually received.
DO NOT reply to any emails you receive saying that you have won a lottery that you did not enter. They are frauds. You will lose your money. There is no "free lunch"; don't be foolish and believe a scam! We can not say it any more plainly: YOU WILL NOT BE NOTIFIED BY EMAIL BY ANY LEGITIMATE LOTTERY THAT YOU WON A PRIZE. If you do receive such an email, it IS a fraud, do not reply to it! If you DID reply to one, click here to see what you will likely receive back.
In the UK, call the hotline at 020 7211 8111 to check or report lottery scams.

I have been receiving numerous emails from the UK Lottery Office advising me of winning Two million five hundred thousand pounds drawn on Sat 16 Dec 2006, (IF ONLY!)
winning ticket no: 56575600545 188 Serial No: 5368/02 Draw 1146. Numbers 5/8/11/27/30/46 Bonus Ball 34. Please contact the claims office Manager Steven Duncan: claimsoffice@katamail.com .
I replied to him (with no details of course). He replied and asked me to contact the London payment offie: london_payment_dept@yahoo.co.uk Mr Peter Kent. I sent him an email and said just send me a bank draft deducting any necessary fees for transfer of same, he replied and said they can't do that please ring him on 44 7031972767 or fax:44870413221
Of course it was a mobile phone and the person/s who answered was of non-english speaking. As there are hundreds of unsuspecting persons who would love this amount of money and would be taken advantage of I thought I should let you know. I have also written to the Euro Team.
