Did You Receive an Unexpected Call From (347)480-1454, claiming to be Microsoft Technical Support?  It may be a Scam!

Scam - - your computer is infected

Have You Received a Scam Phone Call?
(347)480-1454, claiming to be Microsoft Technical Support

Did you receive a call from (347)480-1454, claiming to be Microsoft Technical Support saying that since you were a valued customer, they had received reports sent by your computer, that it was infected with computer viruses, worms or other malware?? Don't send them money nor give them any credit card, bank account or other personal information!

Microsoft warns that they might offer to help solve your computer problems or sell you a software license. Once they have access to your computer, they can do the following:

  • Trick you into installing malicious software that could capture sensitive data, such as online banking user names and passwords. They might also then charge you to remove this software.
  • Take control of your computer remotely and adjust settings to leave your computer vulnerable.
  • Request credit card information so they can bill you for phony services.
  • Direct you to fraudulent websites and ask you to enter credit card and other personal or financial information there.

Microsoft also states that neither Microsoft nor their partners make unsolicited phone calls (also known as cold calls) to charge you for computer security or software fixes.

The scammers may claim they work for:

  • Windows Helpdesk
  • Windows Service Center
  • Microsoft Tech Support
  • Microsoft Support
  • Windows Technical Department Support Group
  • Microsoft Research and Development Team (Microsoft R & D Team)

Scammers are not just busy on the internet, they are burning up the phone lines in attempts to scam people. See below for a consumer report of calls from (347)480-1454, claiming to be Microsoft Technical Support:

    --------------------- COMMENTS -----------------------------

I was contacted on my home phone number on 5/04/2013 by a gentleman claiming to be from MicroSoft Technical Support. He told me that they have been receiving information from my computer that someone has accessed my computer and is using it for fraudulant purposes.  He then asked me to go to my computer and allow him to remotely access my information.  I told him I wasn't able to at this time, but could he give me a phone number to contact him at a later time.  He did, which was (347)480-1454 which is a residence in South Richmond Hill, NY. ( I looked the number up) When I asked him for his company name and information he hung up.  I then went on the MicroSoft website and this was listed as a scam.  I wanted to report this to you as he did give me a phone number.  Perhaps you could investigate as someone else may fall for this.  Thank you.

I received a phone call from 288-918-6555. A man with a thick Indian or South Pacific sounding accent told me he was calling from Microsoft because my computer has a virus and was in serious danger. If I would log into my computer quickly, he would talk me through what I needed to do to remedy it. He stated because I registered my computer with Microsoft when I got it, they were alerted to the problem & able to call me because I had submitted my phone nu,mber at the time I registered the computer. I knew he was trying to scam me so I began asking him questions about his location, how and when he received the information, etc. He became annoyed and kept saying to quickly go to my computer. When I told him I thought he was lying to me, he said something like: Who told you that? F**k you, mother f**ker! I shared this same complaint on: http://www.callercenter.com/288-918-6555.html

-received a phone call from Pennsylvania 570-880-7001  guy with heavy accent claiming he was calling as some sort of representative of Microsoft.  Got testy when I asked again who he was with.  was pushy and wanted me to get on my computer and go to a website onlinewyzrds.com.  I asked why, he said to detect problems with my computer.  I informed him I was having no problems with the computer.  Was very curt when I asked again who he was working for.  He said "I have already told you twice, you need to get on the website"/

I told him I would give him my husband's number... his reply was" I can take his number but he is not in front of your PC".

    He didn't call back.

I've gotten several phone calls from someone with an Indian accent claiming to work for Microsoft; that my computer is sending out spam emails and needs the Windows program repaired. My caller ID on my cell phone read "1024". He asked me to give him access to my computer over the internet and let him "fix" the problem. He even quoted me back a partially correct home address for me. Who are these people?

A foreign gentleman called my business phone and told me was with a group (didn't actually say a business name) that helped people correct the errors in their computers.

He then told me my computer was not accepting updates from Microsoft.

When I told him my computer was working fine (it's new) he then said they would be happy to help me with the errors and correct it, and asked if my computer was turned on.

I asked how he knew what was wrong with my computer and how he knew my phone number was connected to it, he hung up.

I then called the number back and got no answer, the voice mail was young children making a cute little ditty ending with "please leave a message" So I did. I said I was reporting the number to the authorities.

I was immediately called back by a woman with no accent and claimed she lived in Utah and there had been no outgoing calls from her phone.

I told her what was going on and she didn't seem worried or to care, so I don't know if she was in on the scam, or is a victim as well, and maybe her number was cloned.

In any case, the number I was called from is (435) 764-0594, look out for it.

On April 16 at about 5:30PM CST a phone call from a James Parker 315-890-0924 stated that Windows Support was receiving emails from my computer that the Computer Management was infected with virus and computer may crash.

He gave a code to view into the computer management and showed numerous virus which could not be deleted.  He then connected me via www.techviewer.com ID 562-967-591 Password 2989 to a Mason Peterson 361-277-2288.  The procedure he stated would not remove the virus, that I needed a Total Security System to protect the entire computer and the antivirus system l I had was only protecting the 'C" drive.  Mason stated that the Total Security System -Windows Genuine Software (The Licensed Version) was Anti Virus, Anti Malware, Anti Rootkit, Anti Phishing, WEB protecton, USB protection, Spam control + Windows Repair Toolkit, and System Repair Toolkit:  Of which the market price = $400.00 for 1 year; Windows Price:  $99.00 for 2 years+Tech Support; $150.00 for 4 years+Tech. Support; $200.00 for 6 years+ Tech Support; and $250.00 for lifetime+Tech Support.   I told him that I would need to discuss with husband and get back with him; that I needed a name and call back number and would he please send an email with the information as stated.  He declined to send an email and said he would put an icon on the desktop, which he in fact did and I have a copy  of that icon information before deleting from my computer desktop.

I have had Windows for years and never received such a call so I was suspecious especially when he did not refer me to a Microsoft Windows home website to view the offer online.
