How many times have you seen a commercial on tv on in print or heard an advertisement on the radio for a product that seemed too good to be true? And maybe you bought one, only to find out that it was so poorly made that it broke the first time you tried to use it?
And you probably thought to yourself, "how do they get away with claiming that?" The FTC and FCC do bring some cases against companies that make exaggerated or false claims. Here's a listing of some that we think may interest you, along with links to search the entire FTC database.
Note that some cases are settled in court, in which a company is found guilty, but in most cases, the manufacturers settle with the FTC or other government agency. In those cases, not admitting guilt or wrongdoing is usually part of the settlement.
We'll leave it to you, the consumer, to read the facts and decide with your own common sense whether the company was guilty and their action was malicious!
